Some time later

"We’re still moving Tandar."

"Uh-huh."

"How long do you think it should take us to get inside the factory?"

"Ask Rosso, he’s the expert on weights and measures."

"Well Rosso what do you reckon?"

"Oh, about half a minute I suppose."

"And how long have we been moving d’yer reckon?"

"Two, maybe two and a half hours."

"I see... so is it possible that we’re not going into the Vortex factory?"

"Well it’s possible I suppose. Being loaded onto a truck did strike me as a bit odd."

"We could be in big trouble?"

"Well not me. No-one’s allowed to harm me. I’m an endangered species. I could become extinct."

"Yeah, and sooner than you think, if you don’t shut up about it Kaegi."

"WHO SAID THAT?"

"Probly Kalki. He’s always putting his foot in his mouth."

"No, it wasn’t me, but if someone doesn’t get his foot out of MY mouth, there’s going to be a three toed parrot in this box in a minute."

"Alright everyone, calm down. We may have run into a slight technical hitch, but there’s no need to panic."

Slight technical hitch! It’s pitch dark, we’re running out of air, and we’re being shanghaied to heaven knows where. Boy oh boy Tandar, I’d hate to be around when you reckon we’re in a crisis."

"You’re exaggerating Kaegi. We’re not running out of air."

"Oh yeah, and the rest of it?"

"We’ll just have...."

"Hey we’re stopping."

"We are too. We’re here."

"And where exactly is here?"

"I dunno but as soon as it gets quiet I’ll poke my head out and find out."

"Just wait a while, I can still hear humans. Wait til they go."

"How long since we stopped do you reckon Rosso?"

"Oh, bout half an hour I suppose Drongo. Or to put it another way, about a minute since you last asked me."

"It’s gone very quiet. What do you reckon Tandar?"

"We’ll wait a bit longer. It’s still daylight. Hullo Piki’s coming back to us. How are you feeling Piki.?"

"Geez my head."

"Tandar."

"Y..e..s..s Drongo, what now?"

"You remember how Kalki said there was more writing on the lid of this box. Stuff he didn’t read."

"Yes I remember."

"And you remember it said Vortex Industries."

"I take it there’s a point to all this somewhere."

"Well spose it wasn’t Vortex Industries Birdmunchies."
