4. Cockatiel Mutations. In the
wild the Cockatiel is a grey colour with a yellow face and orange cheek patches, however
once it became popular as a pet bird and was kept in large numbers it was only a matter of
time before mutations started to appear. There are eight different mutations of Cockatiel
currently available in Australia they are: Cinnamon, Pearl, Pied, Platinum, Lutino,
Silver, Whitefaced and Fallow. These mutations can also be combined together eg;
Cinnamon-Pearls or Whitefaced-Pied. There are also two new mutations on the horizon that
will no doubt be in much demand in the future they are called Yellow- cheeked and Pastel
faced.
